Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — the watchOS companion is a fully standalone timer. You can start any recipe from your wrist, scrub through phases with the Digital Crown, mute alerts with the dedicated mute button, and pin a complication to your watch face. Recipes and progress sync from your iPhone, so anything you save on iOS is ready on the Watch.
Yes. The app ships with three default espresso recipes: Standard Double Shot (18g in / 36g out, 1:2), Ristretto (18g in / 27g out, 1:1.5), and Lungo (18g in / 54g out, 1:3). Espresso uses dose-and-yield ratios with pre-infusion + extraction phases instead of pour-over phases. You can also create your own custom espresso recipes.
Apple Intelligence runs entirely on-device and is opt-in — you turn it on in Settings. Once you've logged at least three brews, it analyzes your history (ratings, ratios, grind sizes, beans, methods) and suggests adjustments to dial in your cup. Nothing is uploaded; everything stays on your iPhone.
Your data stays on your device. There's no account, no sign-in, no analytics SDK and no third-party tracking. Recipes, brew logs, beans, grinders and ratings live in local storage. You can export the entire brew journal to CSV at any time for backup, or to move it to another device.
Yes — the Bean Library and Grinder Library let you save the gear and coffee you actually use. Add a bean with origin, roast date, roast level, tasting notes and a photo; add a grinder with the burr type and your favorite settings per method. Each brew can be linked to a bean and grinder, so your statistics and AI insights know what you actually brewed with.
Go to the Recipes tab, tap the + button in the top right, and fill in your recipe details including name, method, coffee weight, ratio, and brewing phases.
Each brew method has a recommended grind size shown in the app. Generally: V60 = medium-fine, French Press = coarse, AeroPress = fine to medium, Espresso = very fine. See our grind size guide or the complete recipe reference for per-method recommendations.
Enter your coffee weight and the app automatically calculates the water needed based on the ratio (e.g., 1:16 means 16g water per 1g coffee). Adjust the ratio slider to change the strength.
Yes! Go to Settings and toggle off "Haptic Feedback" to disable vibrations during brewing. There's also a mute toggle on the Watch app for sound alerts.
Tap the History tab to see all your completed brews. You can add ratings and notes to each brew, link it to a bean and grinder, and view aggregated statistics in Settings. Use the CSV export option in Settings to back up your full brew journal.
